Rolex is introducing the latest generation of its legendary professional divers’ watch – Rolex Sea-Dweller. Created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the model’s release, the new Sea-Dweller dial bears the name in red, as a reference to the first model. Waterproof to a depth of 1,220 meters, the new Sea-Dweller Ref.126600 comes with a new, enlarged 43mm case and is equipped with the new 3235 caliber, implemented for the first time in a Rolex Professional watch category.
SPORTS WATCH THAT CONQUERED THE DEEP
A technical divers’ watch, Oyster Perpetal Sea-Dweller, was originally designed for the pioneers of professional deep-sea diving. It is equipped with characteristin Rolex inovation: the helium escape valve, patented by Rolex in 1967. While preserving the waterproofness of the watch, this ingenious safety valve regulates the pressure accumulated in the case during the decompression phases of deep-water saturation dives.
Under water, timing is every bit as vital to divers as oxygen.
ROLEX SEA-DWELLER REF.126600
On the occasion of marking the 50th anniversary of Sea-Dweller, in 2017 Rolex presented a new version of its legendary watch. New Sea-Dweller Ref. 126600 is equipped with an enlarged 43 mm case and the new 3235 movement that guarantees the highest standards of precision and reliability. For the first time, the Rolex Sea-Dweller is equipped with a Cyclops lens to increase date readability – a recognizable feature of Rolex watches.
DIVERS’ DREAM COME TRUE
The model incorporates all of Rolex’s latest technical developments: a case and bracelet in highly corrosion-resistant 904L steel, a unidirectional rotatable bezel with a Cerachrom insert in ceramic, virtually impervious to scratches and ultraviolet rays, a Chromalight display with long-lasting luminescence for optimum legibility in the dark, a Triplock winding crown with triple waterproofness system, an Oysterlock safety clasp that prevents accidental opening; and the Rolex Glidelock and Fliplock extension systems which, together, allow divers to extend the bracelet without the use of tools to a total of 46 mm in order to wear the watch over diving suits.
Still at the cutting edge of technology in 2017, just as it was in 1967, the Sea-Dweller remains one of the symbols of the privileged relationship that has always bound Rolex and the world of marine exploration.
ROLEX SEA-DWELLER IS MORE THAN A DIVERS’ WATCH
Although designed for the utmost depths and the research of the sea world, Rolex Sea-Dweller is much more than that. As estemeed portal Hodinkee reported, in the summer of 2017, the host of the famous show “Grand Tour”, Richard Hammond, suffered a fiery crash in Switzerland in which his car Rimac Concept One burnt, but not his Rolex. Despite a serious accident and fire, his Rolex Sea-Dweller got only external damage, while the mechanism remained undamaged and continued to work properly. This amazing story is just one in a series of confirmations that Rolex watches are truly synonymous for excellence and reliability.
