At the Baselworld 2017, Heritage Black Bay family welcomed its first chronograph, Heritage Black Bay Chrono Ref. 79350, powered by Manufacture self-winding movement with column wheel and vertical clutch.
Tudor Black Bay Chrono
Since the presentation in 1970 of the Prince Oysterdate Chronograph, its first chronograph, Tudor has always produced watches that are closely tied to the world of motorsports. In the same way, since 1954 Tudor has been constantly improving its professional divers’ watches.
The new hybrid Heritage Black Bay Chrono Ref. 79350 chronograph dares to combine the aquatic heritage represented by the Black Bay family with the queen of the racetrack, the chronograph. Remaining faithful to the Black Bay aesthetic with the famous snowflake hands – a brand signature since 1969 – the Heritage Black Bay Chrono Ref. 79350 model offers optimum readability against the domed matt black dial. Its sub-counters are hollowed for optimum contrast and a date aperture is positioned at 6 o’clock. The recognisable characteristics of the Black Bay are preserved in a steel case with a 41-millimetre diameter, fitted with pushers inspired by the first generation of Tudor chronographs. A fixed bezel in circular satin-brushed steel with engraved tachymetric scale completes the face of this sporty new chronograph.
The Manufacture chronograph calibre MT5813
Boasting a 70-hour power reserve, a silicon balance spring and certification by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute, the Manufacture chronograph Calibre MT5813 that drives the Heritage Black Bay Chrono Ref. 79350 model is a high-performance movement. Crafted in the purest watchmaking tradition, with column wheel mechanism and vertical clutch. In keeping with the Tudor philosophy of quality, it presents extraordinary robustness and reliability, guaranteed by an array of extreme tests applied to all Tudor products. Derived from the chronograph manufacture calibre Breitling 01, with a high-precision regulating organ developed by Tudor and exclusive finishes, this movement is the result of a recent collaboration between the two brands, which now pool their expertise in the design and production of certain mechanical movements.
A denim-style jacquard woven strap
The fabric strap is one of the signatures of the Heritage line, and Tudor was one of the first watch brands to offer it. Woven in Jacquard technique by a 150-year-old family firm from the region of Saint-Étienne, its manufacturing quality and comfort on the wrist are unique. The Heritage Black Bay Chrono Ref. 79350 model presents a complimentary navy-blue denim-style strap designed
by Tudor and woven by this craftsman.
Heritage Black Bay Chrono Ref. 79350 has a choice of three bracelet designs. The first is a steel bracelet inspired by the Tudor watches produced in the 1950s and 1960s. The second is a leather strap in a rich brown, with folding clasp, and thrid is the denim-style jacquard woven strap.
The Heritage line
A key characteristic of the Tudor Heritage line is the unique creative process that began in 2010 with the presentation of the Tudor Heritage Chrono model, a free interpretation of the brand’s first chronograph dating from 1970. Since then, some of the most important references in the history of Tudor have been reworked within the Heritage line. Unlike a traditional identical re-edition of a classic, the models in this line combine key aesthetics from history with modern-day watchmaking. The standout Black Bay family, which forms part of the Heritage line, is a key example of this approach, bringing together over 60 years of Tudor divers’ watches.
Tudor is Born To Dare
In 2017, Tudor launched a new campaign with the “Born To Dare” signature. It reflects both the history of the brand and what it stands for today. It tells the adventures of individuals who have achieved the extraordinary on land, on ice, in the air or underwater, with a Tudor watch on their wrists. It also refers to the vision of Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of Tudor, who manufactured Tudor watches to withstand the most extreme conditions, watches made for the most daring lifestyles. It is testimony to Tudor’s singular approach to watchmaking, which has made it what it is today. At the cutting edge of the watchmaking industry, its innovations are now essential benchmarks. The Tudor “Born To Dare” spirit is supported throughout the world by first class ambassadors, whose life achievements result directly from a daring approach to life.
Tudor is a Swiss made watch brand, offering mechanical watches with sophisticated style, proven reliability and unique value for money. The origins of the Tudor brand date back to 1926, when ‘The Tudor’ was first registered on behalf of the founder of Rolex, Hans Wilsdorf. He created the Montres TUDOR SA Company in 1946 to offer watches with the quality and dependability of a Rolex, at a more accessible price point. Throughout their history, Tudor watches have been chosen by the boldest adventurers and seasoned professionals alike. Today, the Tudor collection includes emblematic lines such as Black Bay, Heritage, Pelagos, Glamour and 1926 and, since 2015, it has offered mechanical manufacture movements with many diverse functions.
